The hightest mountain of the Rhön
The Wasserkuppe (950m), the hightest mountain of the Rhön, is known to be the "Birthplace of Gliding". The huge gliding centre with its airfield and museum as well as the Radom - a radar station made to observe eastern Germany and build during the Cold War - is also a point of interest for visitors on this mountain. In summer visitors can also ride one of Germany's biggest toboggan runs, and when the snow begins to fall the mountain becomes the winter sports hub of the Rhön.
